Queen Mary Says You Can Call Me Auntie Mary
Prince Andrew and his family didn't socialize much with the British royal family, despite living on their castle grounds. But every so often, there were encounters. When Andrew was about six, his grandmother took him to meet Queen Mary at the castle. She patted him on the head and said, "You may call me Auntie Mary." Queen Mary, who died in 1953, was the grandmother of Elizabeth II, the current queen of England. She was tall and always wore a veil, in the fashion of the day. Andrew did indeed call her Auntie Mary, and he called her husband, King George V, Uncle Bertie.
